Crown Corkers 0-5 Beez Knees

2007-02-05

Pre-Match

Dave Atkinson
Looking ahead to the Beez Knees game, let us first look back at their first few games:
08 Jan 07 Stanwix United 0 vs 5 Beez Knees (18:00)
15 Jan 07 Graham Raiders 1 vs 4 Beez Knees (20:00)
22 Jan 07 Cumberland Building Society 1 vs 3 Beez Knees (18:00)
29 Jan 07 The Window Shop 5 vs 2 Beez Knees (19:30)
1. The five they put in against Stanwix were against me, as you may remember. Their tricky la'al player was instrumental in all but one of those goals and man marking him out of the game would be a good start.
2. Look at the number of goals they've scored. even if I can keep the score down (or hopefully keep a clean sheet) we need to emulate The Window Shop who have shown that you can put five past Beez Knees
3. Last week we constantly frustrated Cumberland Building Society
Given all of the above, there is no reason why we should not win this game. It would be particularly nice to put an end to this run against them.

Post-Match

Dave Atkinson
0-5. Says it all, doesn't it?

Dave Jones
It does, but it's behind us now. At the end of the day these lot always hammered us. Just like Newcastle never win anything, it may be "one of them things". Last season we run them over for the first ten and went 3 - 0 up, but then conceded 6... this time it were 5. Nowt in it really.

Lee Ormerod
at the end of the day we can sit here and moan like women but it's about time we tell ourselves that we are playing more for a laugh than trying to be serious and go for promotion. if we don't train then we can't be expected to get serious results. some people can't make it and that's fair enough but we should be able to agree on one hour a week that is uitable for all. as dave said they've hammered us every time we've played and they are one of the top contenders for promotion so we shouldn't read much into getting beat by them. just watching them you know that most of their team will play more than once a week as do the other teams that are serious contenders to go up

Martin Taylor
Are you saying that we shouldn't even get bothered about the manor of last nights defeat? I am not a loser, I try and win at everything. There is no point in playing if we are going there for a laugh, because last night was not funny!!!

Dave Atkinson
I totally agree with Martin. I've never approached these games "as a laugh" and I am disappointed to hear someone suggest that perhaps some players have done so. I am very competitive and I get very angry with myself for every mistake I make, because those mistakes usually result in goals. I would say I made at most two mistakes last night and otherwise had a good game, yet we still got hammered 5-0! I don't want to say "I told you so" but sod it, I will. And yet again, a moment of hot-headedness gets a player sin binned. I could rant on about this point for a while, but I won't. If you're not serious about this, then don't play. Simple.

Andrew Little
It was evident against Cumberland Building Society everyone is taking this seriously and it looked to me everyone was upset last night when we got beat. I think Lee was trying to lift people but it came out wrong. Our problem is our consistency, which we have struggled with since i've been a member of the team. Dave A, yes you did say those things it wasn't that they were ignored we were just playing a better side, which amounted to alot of frusration at times and letting in early goals did make it very difficult for us. I've studied our last 6 fixtures and believe we can win 5 of them if we play like last week for the remainder of the season

Dave Jones
I want to win every game we play, but no feeling sorry for ourselves. I hate losing but there's no point carrying a negative attitude to the next match. Last thing I would want to see is to lose any more players than we already have because we've dropped our game and not doing as well as we thought. Massively disapointed with the result I still actually enjoyed playing last night for what it was, a game of footy!. I know what Lee is getting at here as we go to play, and to win, but if we don't just get on with it and try to WIN the next game. A lesson learned. Not a matter of life and death so I hope we aren't feeling sorry for ourselves too much and can hold our heads high for the next match against the Taxi's!!

Lee Ormerod
right i think you've misunderstood me. what i said was we should stop playing serious and start playing for fun as hardly anyone is comitted to putting in more than one game a week. simple. if you're so serious come down and help us improve. i honestly can't see how you can see it any different from that. put your time where your mouth is.

Dave Atkinson
I also still maintain that if you're serious about training, then do it on the same type of surface, with similar size goals and penalty arc. Don't play in a small area indoors. I'm quitting anyway, so don't expect me to come along. If you find a replacement before the end of the season to phase in, I'm happy to drop out at any time.

Martin Taylor
I play 4 times a week already and to then play in a pokey little dance hall that doesn't resemble anything like a football pitch is pointless. You say our first touch is letting us down, but do you not think some just don't know how to move in a football game. You can create chances for yourself, but only by the rest of the team dragging other players away with their runs. We can all improve our fitness by running and doing sprints in our own free time, we don't have to do that together. Until we get somewhere like St Aidans then forget it, I can't waste my time like you can.
Lee, why do you get like this on email, but say nothing about the game last night in the pub when we could have discussed it then. It should be sorted out on the pitch and after in the pub, not carrying on in emails. Matt and Stu don't need to comment because we talked about it last night and we know what the problems are. They can be broken down by stupid behaviour leading to a sin-bin and players that just coast their way through the game and only become part of it in email debates. The fact is that we have tactics of getting close to players and tracking back, not once was my position covered last night when I went forward, and when telling the coasting players they just ignore the fact.
Like Dave, I'm getting bored of this too.

Lee Ormerod
yes we are all getting bored of this but you can't just have a go at someone and not expect a reply. it's a lie that your position wasn't covered when you went forward coz i made sure i did it and i won't back down from that. you know i tell you to push up when you have the ball and i drop back. i've done it on many occasions and have no problem doing it whatsoever. you can criticise others, such as me and dave below and we will take it on the chin and more often than not agree with you. however your shooting was shocking last night but don't seem to want bring it up or admit it. if you can point fingers then so can i. my sincere apologies if i have read it all wrong but things need said and i'm not gonna sit here getting discretely sl@gged off then look like a fool when i reply. all my emails have been in response to someone simple.
i would've gone through it yesterday if we'd started talking about it in the pub. if i'm not there when you, matt and stu went through it then i can't be involved in the conversation from the other side of town. wasn't even gonna mention yesterday today but i think you'll find i wasn't the first or the second to start this debate.
look i don't want to fall out with people but i am just sick of b1tching after every game we lose but not doing anything about it. matt's right we need to have a few beers over this. the only point i have is we need to practice as a team to get better as a team. i can see other peoples' points and tell them i agree if i do. a lot of what is said is right and maybe we all needed to get this off our chests even if it is an inappropriate time do so.

Matt Selen
All, Enough please ........... A few things I need to say - Read it..think about it..If you don't agree then that's fine. Only one man's opinions but as a captain someone has to make a statement.
First of all, not going to start pointing fingers at individual people. This is not a character assasination.
We set out with this team with the intention of playing serious football with the objective of winning however to do this several things are required.
1 - Fitness. We are not children and do not need to be told about keeping fit. You need to be responsible for your own fitness levels and ask yourself some questions and come up with honest answers. Fitness plays a huge factor in these 6 a side games. It dictates tempo right from the start. If players have to pace themselves from the outset or not make that important 35 yard run because it will knacker you for the next 5 minutes the we will always struggle.
2 - General skills. We can all play, but we will not improve playing 25 minutes once a week where individual involvement could be as little as a dozen touches in the whole match. We are not a team of very good players that can turn up and turn it on. When we play well, we are very good but we don't train enough for this to be the norm.
3 - Discipline. On several levels - positional discipline, knowing your roles and responsibilities and working for the team and of course personal discipline. Play hard but don't get involved. Turn around ...walk away but don't get sucked into confrontation. Its exactly what the other guy is trying to achieve. You'll never come out of it on top.
I sit here and watch 20-30 emails backwards and forwards on a Tuesday picking apart the game, complaining about the opposition, the ref, and ourselves.... Not the way to do it.
Review the previous game and plan the next, as a group, face to face.
We are at a crossroad.. either we continue as we are and do "just ok" or we put the effort and "commitment" into this team and try to do much much better and finally win something.
No one is going to give it to us just because it's "our turn"
I want to win.. always have and always will.
