Dal (or dahl) means lentils
500g lentils (choose any, but try mixing a selection together)
2 tablepoons of Tomato puree
1 tablespoon of nut oil
two crushed/chopped cloves of garlic
one teaspoon each of:
crushed chillies
turmeric
cumin
coriander
fenugreek
lime juice
lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon each of:
black pepper
cinnamon
slowly heat the lentils in enough water to just cover them until the lentils have started to break down. Add all the other ingredients and continue to hear until it is a slightly lumpy mixture.
Serve as a side dish or as a dip. Alternatively, add cooked chick peas or meat to make into a main dish
