25 October 1998 saw an addition to the Internet world of global significance - the Carlisle United Chat Room. Whilst not the first attempt at doing this, it was decided that to make it a success we would pin down a time that would be convenient for most people and this was set at Sunday, 11:00 UK time. This allowed our North American based and Antipodean followers at least a reasonable chance of participating.
In addition to this, starting with the Brighton and Hove Albion away game of 1999-01-09, we began a "commentary" service in the chat room for fans with no access to radio coverage. This ran for several years until the BBC began to provide a similar text service and also a feed for Radio Cumbria. We came up with some shorthand to try and make the commentary more fluent.
For those that couldn't make it on a particular day, I did my best to keep transcripts of the discussions and who was present.
