We do have a tough month ahead, though, playing some of the other 3rd Tier high fliers, including some team called Leeds United. The last bit is a little tongue in cheek, because of course I have heard of them before. Same as I've heard of Grimsby, Gretna and Farsley Celtic. What has annoyed me this season has been the constant hype about us playing Leeds United. Yes, they were a big Tier 1 team a couple of years ago. Yes, they do have a lot of supporters. However, they are now simply another Tier 3 team, and one which are there for the beating. I think it is a tough game to predict, as it could go either way, but I do believe we can beat them on our current form. We will just have to see on Saturday, won't we? In the meantime, here are some clarifying points following all the banter on the Internet Forums:
Well, it was a tough first half for Carlisle, and going in 1-0 down seemed to have some fans concerned, but it was a defensive error from Carlisle which had given Leeds their lead, although Westwood did make two or three really good saves.
The second half was dominated by Carlisle with Leeds struggling to pressure the Carlisle goal. The equaliser seemed to shake the Leeds players, and the second Carlisle goal went in as the Leeds fans looked into the sun setting over the Warwick Road End. Symbolically, the Leeds unbeaten League run was coming to an end before their disbelieving eyes. The loud and boisterous Leeds travellers were struck quiet as they watched their team concede a third goal and slip silently beneath the waves of Carlisle attacks.
Every unbeaten run ends with a defeat, and this one did so at Fortress Brunton Park. With the tears shed after their defeat, it was perhaps appropriate that the Petteril End (away supporters) at Brunton Park is more commonly known as the Waterworks End.
There were thugs on both sides, but there did seem to be more Leeds ones than Carlisle ones. At half time, the Leeds fans bombarded the area outside the McVitie bar, with no consideration for the women and children milling around there. In the second half, there were a couple of plastic bottles thrown by the Carlisle fans towards the Leeds fans from the Waterworks end of the Paddock. Unfortunately, one of these hit a police officer. In the second half, Leeds fans terrified families in the East Stand. After the game, Carlisle fans were taunting Leeds fans outside Waterworks/Paddock area. Leeds fans bombard families with stones, coins and bottles. Basically, these pathetic little thugs should bugger off to a deserted island to beat each other up.
A few years back, same thing happened when Burnley came (see link below). I said at the time that the mesh was inadequate and would never stop determined thugs, and sadly I was proven right today. One of my friends was sat near them today and his pregnant wife was nearly hit by a full bottle thrown by a Leeds fan. Sad pathetic little thugs.
To celebrate this "Poxy little village team in Scotland" beating the illustrious huge club which is Leeds United, the City of Carlisle laid on a massive Fireworks display in the evening, attended by over 30,000 people. At least, I think it was to celebrate the Mighty Cumbrians defeating the Yorkshire Puddings. I might be wrong.
