I still can't believe it!
My wife arrived home around 5:15. She was on a work course leaving me with 3 kids (and the reason I had to give the commentary rather than actually be there today). She said as she came in the door that she went to a friend's house and listened to the last 20 mins before coming home - just to be sure. (I would never hit her but I would have been a monumentally depressed guy if we had lost)....
The last minutes were flying by so quickly. I typed in something like "60 seconds left" but I can't remember much from then until I managed to type in "goalllllll" or something like that and then hit return. The rest is a blur. Next thing I knew, I was standing in the middle of the lounge shouting "YES! YES! YES!" and then the tears started. When they came, I couldn't stop them. I went back to my desk. I sat down in front of the keyboard and buried my head in my hands. Relief washed over me and tears and cries and laughter all washed together as Lacey's voice warbled over the top of me.
Life has never been so sweet!
Tension of the last 6 months suddenly dissolved when I realised that Plymouth would have little more than enough time to kick off. Finally I remembered myself. Sorry to those Blues around the World waiting to find out what happened next. I remember coming back on line and only being able to repeat what I had been shouting: "YES YES YES!"
I heard Pearson's thanks to the crowd and I heard our very own Mick Mitchell come on and epitomise the romance of Carlisle United. (nice one Mick!)
Lacey repeated the score.
I knew then that there was a God in heaven. That he answers prayers and surely, as if you didn't already know it, he's a Carlisle United Supporter! Life begins again.

I have been watching the season wind down from afar and reading the letters, some of them written in desperation, some in hope others obviously angry, but very few ever giving up. It is good to see the Cumbrian spirit is as strong as ever and speaking as a supporter from the Alan Ashman days ( and heady days they where) lets hope Carlisle Utd football club can now climb out the cellar in the next season and not sent everyone mental again.
As I sit here at work at 3:00am I have only got the first few ravings from Scott, Chris and a few others as they are heading to the boozer so I would appreciate a quick run down of the game and this about the goalie scoring
Derick Hetherington
We even made ITV News at 8:00 - even the headlines (after the war). They showed all three goals and a quick interview with Jimmy Glass and then showed Scarborough's goal, their fans celebrating at the end and then the despair. It was so nearly us - you've got to feel for them, having it snatched away from them like that. I found it ironic that the player that Scarborough complained about us getting scored the goal that sent them down!
The occasion was far better than the match - a lot of the players were nervous. Whitehead carried off three trophies before the match and the MoM award as well. Searle got the goal of the season award before the match which was a good job as Brightwell's goal was a beauty (I thought he might have got MoM). Thankfully it all seemed to go off peacefully when it could so easily have got out of hand.
Priorities for next season - Director of Coaching, goalkeeper, target man (goodbye and good riddance to Stevens) and perhaps a new chairman? MK was quoted in N&S that his wife is scared to go shopping, he's had to get his youngest out of school and his daughter has been threatened as well. It would seem that it is not only CUFC fans that are putting pressure on him to go but his family as well. That's not on! Shouting at him at the match is one thing but taking it out on his wife and kids is despicable - the people who do that are not CUFC fans - they're scum!

Firstly, well done to Rog for the superb job in the chat room... I'll forgive you your running around the room like an idiot... Hell, I was doing it too - It was 2:15am over here and I woke up my girlfriend (and possibly my neighbours) when it was confirmed that Glass scored... (I thought at first that it was some sad bastards idea of a sick joke to say that the keeper had scored).
Secondly, well done to all the other CUFC fans... I was concerned by the extremely pessimistic tone of one or two of the postings on the list since Wednesday, but in the chat room, and from what I can gather at the game too, the support for the players never waned... Well done one and all... Who was it that said support doesn't matter... well, bollocks to whoever it was... It does bloody matter, and we just showed how much it mattered...
Thirdly well done to the players. I'd just come back from watching possibly the most pathetic showing ever by my preferred Aussie rules team... They curled up and died when their backs were to the wall - and this from a proud never-say-die club. Thankfully the players of CUFC restored my faith in team spirit and pride in the club shirt... Bollocks to Port Adelaide... Carlisle are Kings!!!
Fourthly, apparently I was published in the EN&S... A desperate mid-week phone call from my mate in Carlisle had him pleading with me to write a rallying call to arms to the paper to encourage as many fans as possible to get to BP for the game. As it turns out nearly 7,600 of you were there... I'd like to think that my efforts with that letter and in the chat-room were crucial in determining the final result, but that would be to take away from the passionate support and effort that every single Carlisle fan the world over gave on Saturday to see us over the line... Again, well done... a big Internet hug to you all. There is no club like Carlisle, and Man Utd can stick the treble up their hole for all I care...
Fifthly, so momentous was the news that the BBC report of the result was shown on the telly over here!!! Real moving footage from Brunton Park!!! - Thousands of Carlisle fans running onto the pitch in celebration!!! The wobbling, gelatinous stomach of Michael Knighton as he jumped up and down with joy!!! Three things I thought I'd never see on my TV!!! (one of which I could have done without mind you)... I had the video recorder running, and I'm going to show some of my mates over here... I tried to explain the significance to them but they never really understood, but it is pure bloody poetry... Pure bloody agony too, but pure bloody poetry... and I'm sure they'll appreciate it to some extent... Sixthly how nice it was to get the excited call at 3:00am from my mates in Carlisle telling me about the miraculous escape... And how nice it was to be able to share that happiness with them. But this support is only really possible through things such as this list, the web-site and the chat room, so thank you to all those people involved in providing these things for the rest of us. We are a world-wide club, and although Carlisle United fans are spread far and wide... they will always be Carlisle United fans...
Finally, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an ending!!! As I said last night, it`s great to know there are so many of us out there who love C.U.F.C. and have stuck with the club despite tremendous anti -Knighton feelings. Let`s enjoy the moment, thank God for our great escape, but DON`T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!! Somehow we`ve got to get Knighton out, or next season will be more of the same(or worse)Best wishes to the best supporters in the world!!!!!
We are famous!!!! Couldn`t believe my eyes last night when it showed THE goal on channel 9 news here in Perth Australia, and today there was even a write-up in the West Australian newspaper...unheard of !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still high as a kite.
Steven Graham
2-1 YESSSSSS absolutly brilliant.......I may be an Aberdeen fan but that was brilliant, and a goal form the keeper, how much I wish I had been there today.......what was the game like, or are you all to pissed to write today ? Wonderful.......SCARBROUGH ARE SHITE !!!
Heres to next season being promoted from DIV 3..............

Well what do you say to that, the best and worst day of my life without doubt up until the 94th minute when an on loan (have gloves will travel)keeper kept us in the league, I was almost in tears and then it happened and I was in tears but tears of joy, I was working in london with a long distance telephone call to my mum in Carlisle with the receiver next to the stereo, I had Phil jones conferenced into the same call the other side of london I must have looked like a man possessed to the Security guards at work, running around screaming at the top of my voice, im paying for it now with no voice and the headache of the century, but who cares, im off to the off license now to buy a nice expensive Bottle of champagne to celebrate
Now we can start to build again to ensure our rightful place in the football league
Even Radio 5 admitted it would be a travesty if a team with the Support and history of Carlisle were to go out of the football league
Adrian McGonigle
WWW.CUFC.COM is being worked on now and will be ready in all its glory for the start of the New FOOTBALL LEAGUE season
JUST AMAZING - MCALL GIFTS US A GOAL AFTER WE LET SOME BLOKE RUN 50 YARDS AND SCORE, THEN A LIFETIME ON THE EDGE, ACCEPTING FINALLY THAT WE ARE GOING DOWN. IN THE 6TH MINUTE OF EXTRA TIME, A CORNER. PEARSON WAVING THE GOALIE TO GET UP IN THE BOX, A HEADER SAVED ON THE LINE, THEN AN UNBELIEVABLE FINISH. 2000 PEOPLE ON THE PITCH IN 3 SECONDS, TEARS ALL ROUND, THE WHISTLE IMMEDIATELY AFTER KICKOFF. LET THEM KEEP THE PREMIERSHIP, THIS MEANS MORE THAN ANY OF THAT STUFF. PEARSON TALKS WITH DIGNITY ABOUT SORTING OUT THE PROBLEMS OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS NO SIGN OF KNIGHTON AT THE END, BUT APPARENTLY HE'S BEEN TALKING CRAP ON THE RADIO ABOUT INVESTING FOR THE FUTURE ETC ETC. SHOULDN'T LET THAT SPOIL THE BEST DAY I'VE EVER SPENT FOLLOWING CARLISLE.

I'm happily a poor man tonight (every one in my local got the promised drink) What a result, I still cant believe it.

In years to come those of us who lived through that experience will be able to say "I was there". I mean, keepers don't score in injury time to keep you in the football league, but there you go, it's a funny old game is football. Frankly I've never witnessed scenes like it on a football field. It even surpassed Wembley in '97 when Steve Hayward scored that penalty.
I looked up to the director's box and there was Knighton jumping up and down. At that moment I realised he does still care, despite all that's gone wrong in the last two years, a lot of it his fault.
Perhaps there is hope for this club after all ?
Alastair Woodcock
Unbelievable end. We were in despair where I was sat, 90 minutes gone and still 1-1. My brother yelled at Glass, when he went up for the corner, not to be so daft and get back into his goal where he belonged! I liked the way the Plymouth supporters stopped on after the game and applauded us.
Did you hear David Mellor on Radio 5 Live, a lot on that program about Carlisle and Knighton and 1.4 million profit? He was very good on fans knowing more about the financial sides of their clubs, (like Everton, as well as Carlisle).
Jeff Graham
44 mesages from you all to plough through, but first . . . Can there ever have been a more surreal moment than sitting in a hotel lobby in Kuwait, bursting into tears as my mother described over the phone how an on - loan goalie charged up the field in the last minute of the entire season to save us? It's time, for a while, to forget all our disputes, name calling, differences of opinion over how we got there in the first place, there's part of us all in Carlisle United and it's time for us to be severely smug. And if Jimmy ever plays at Brunton Park again we should line up along Warwick Road to kiss his fabulous right boot.
Come on you Blues!
Mike Brown
all vote grandstand personality of the year -- JIMMY GLASS
Jason Adamson
What a game, I don't think anybody there will forget it. I reckon we should all vote for Jimmy Glass for sports personality of the year
Mark Greener
1 championship, 1 promotion and two Wembley appearances in recent years yet nothing can compare to Saturday. Absolutely amazing. I didn't make it in to the East Stand but was in B Stand, about 10 rows from the back. There was a real atmosphere in there and I'm sure it would have turned nasty had it not been for some Southerner who should be made Mayor!
It did, however, make me sick to see Knighton being interviewed afterwards. The man has no dignity and should have left the moment to the players, coaching staff and fans. Okay so he looked as though he cared when we scored, but the club is worth more in the League than in the Conference.
Its good to hear that plans are being made for next season but how can we go buying players when we don't know who the manager is gonna be. A team should be shaped by the manager and not by the chairman who saw some geezer stick 3 goals past us. Obviously I could be wrong here and we could be chasing Tate as a result of Pearson's recommendation, it certainly sounded after the game that he is keen to turn the club round.
Lee Smith
What a day - I still cannot believe it - especially the fact that I managed to spend £105 between 2pm and 2am - I'm sure Mr Moet & Mr Chandon will be pleased about that. I must admit I didn't buy all the papers - only 10 including the one I bought twice by mistake! - I read the rest in Asda though.
Football - don't you just love it.
Gerard Gornall
I must add that I'm a PNE (spit, I hear you all say) fan, but I also got so involved in watching the scores from BP and Scarborough, that when that Jimmy Glass goal went in, I just had to join your chat room just to experience the occasion, and it almost felt as if I wished I had been at BP! Definitely one of those matches that will forever live in the memories of ANY football fan that was keeping up with the scores of the matches that day.
So can I just say a big thank you to all those who made me feel welcome in your chatroom on Saturday and I hope to see you all at Deepdale very soon, but hopefully in Div 1 :-)
Good luck in Div 3 next year !
Karl Johnson
I've just got back home to Manchester after possibly the best weekend of my life. I will never forget the rollercoaster of emotions and unbelievable relief when Glass scored with only 10 seconds left. For just a few minutes, everyone in the whole world was my best friend. Hugging fully grown men with tears down their faces. For the icing on the cake, I went out and got hammered (as must people), went to Buskers and got laid. I know which was better. The football meant more, lasted longer and was far more enjoyable. After all, there are lots of sluts but only one Carlisle United. GET IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Incidently, I got coined from a bus while walking through Manchester in my Carlisle shirt. Scarborough fan ? Preston fan ? Burnley fan ? Who cares. The cash paid nicely for a pint!

Jimmy Glass is Magic, he wears our keepers top
He ran the length of the pitch, to save us from the drop
When the ball came to him, he put it in the net
He sent the boro down without any regret
Lee Gardner
I have also added some more to the Jimmy Glass Song :
Jimmy is our hero, he wears our goaly's top
He scored the goal
that saved United from the drop
He rushed right off his goalline,
it seemed to make no sense
Until his trusty right boot sent the
Sca'b's to the conference
Jimmy is our hero, he wears our goaly's
kit
He scored the goal that pulled United from the **it
The crowd went completely crazy, and Knighton jumped around
His
belly hit the stand and crashed it to the ground
Just got my News and Star through the post - Its common Knowledge that men think about sex every six minutes, except CUFC supporters who think about Jimmy's goal every three minutes!!!!
