On-loan keeeper Jimmy Glass sensationally saved Carlisle's League status four minutes into added time. The Cumbrians were on their way out of the Lague after 71 proud years when Glass went forward for a corner. The corner was taken by Graham Anthony and a header from Scott Dobie was punched away by James Dungey, but Glass gleefully blasted the ball home from 5 yards.
The goal sparked a massive pitch invasion, with most of the 7,000 plus crowd celebrating wildly on the pitch as Scarborough went out instead. Hero Glass said "Coach Nigel Pearson waved me up for the corner, the ball fell to me and I just put it in the net. Then I seemed to have 2,000 people on top of me."
Pearson thanked the fans for their support, saying he understood their frustration. Carlisle chairman Michael Knighton, blamed for the club's plight, had missiles thrown at him. He said of the great escape: "It's absolutely fabulous. Now I can get drunk."
Carlisle were on the slippery slope in the 49th minute when Plymouth's teenager Lee Philips drilled a 25-yard drive in off the post. David Brightwell had a header cleared off the line before he equalised in the 62nd minute with a 25-yard blast. That sparked a pitch invasion. But it was nothing compared with the joy when Glass grabbed that incredible last-gasp winner.
