Jimmy Glass

The pain of losing as Glass shatters Scarborough's hopes

In division three, a last minute goal from on-loan goalkeeper Jimmy Glass, signed controversially after deadline day, kept Carlisle in the Football League with a 2-1 win over Plymouth and condemned Scarborough to Conference League Football next season.

Nearly 8,000 were at Brunton Park to see the Pilgrims take the lead the lead through Lee Phillips before David Brightwell equalised on the hour to set up an amazing climax. The Gulls thought they were safe with a 1-1 draw at the McCain Stadium against Peterborough.

Meanwhile, Brentford are champions, having delighted their 2,000 travelling fans with a 1-0 victory over fellow promotees Cambridge United with Lloyd Owusu's 25th strike of the season proving decisive at the Abbey Stadium.

The play-off places were filled by Leyton Orient who drew 2-2 with Barnet but had to be rescued by an Amara Simba strike after Steve Searle looked to have hit the winner for the B's. Scunthorpe join them despite losing 1-0 to Marco Gabbiadini's strike for Darlington and they may face one of Rotherham after their 1-1 draw with Chester City at Sealand Road, or possibly Swansea City who cemented their place in the play-offs with a 2-0 win over Hull City after Steve Watkins hit a brace.

Mansfield just miss out despite thumping already-promoted Cardiff City 3-0. The Stags scorers were Lormor, Lee Peacock and Darrell Clarke.

Chris Curran's last minute goal at St James Park gave Exeter City the points against Halifax whilst Paul Stephenson's equaliser for Hartlepool gave the visitors a point they never looked like securing against Southend at Roots Hall, after Strodder was sent off after 66 minutes. Maher got the goal for Alan Little's side.

Shrewsbury thumped Torquay 3-0 with a brace from Kerrigan and a strike from Steele. The Gulls also missed a penalty when Leadbitter blasted wide. Brighton thought they had secured a win with a first half goal from Barker, until a last-gasp Andy Barlow equaliser gave Rochdale a share of the spoils.
