OK, it's New Year so it's a New Look! I decided that the time had come to cut back the monthly issue to just reviewing the previous month and pointing to new pieces. This month I have revamped the "old articles" bit into a fully fledged interviews and articles section. I trawled back through all the monthlies and created a new structure to house them.
Added this month :
What has Michael Knighton ever done for us? which is a reworking of the Romans sketch in Monty Python's Life of Brian.
December was a turbulent month with wins and losses and good and bad news on the player front. The first "official" bid for Jansen of £1.2million from West Ham was rejected, with Knighton insisting on £2million. The good money is still on Jansen going to Newcastle, although in an open auction situation you would expect Manchester United to win. Jansen and Delap have spent several days training with Derby and it has been announced that they may also have a similar training period with Manchester United.
Off the field Michael Knighton re-affirmed his resolve to stay and see out the current troubles. To be fair to the guy, he does appear to be making a genuine effort to bring in players and the "disposal" of the older players could now be interpreted as squad rebuilding.
On the field there was a definite improvement in performances and Carlisle can genuinely count themselves unlucky not to have gained a few more points. We had particularly good games against Blackpool (a 1-1 draw) and Wigan (a 2-0 win), coming out of the holiday period with four points from six and finally off the bottom of the table again. We are still, however, in the dungeons.......
