May and June are traditionally quiet months with people recovering from the previous season and taking their annual holidays. My holiday this year is to (hoipefully) New York on a cheap last minute break.
However, June 1998 sees us lurching nervously into yet another World Cup campaign and for Cumbrians we have double the enjoyment with both Scotland and England involved. After all, we are Jocks, and we know we are. England's recent run of results don't instill us with much confidence, though, scoring only one goal. But we must remember that the run in to Euro 96 saw a similar string of results and the team did pull out the stops once the tournament started, so we can but hope.
Sports Minister Tony Banks is launching The Express Sport Live website, a new sports site from The Express Newspaper group, with a high-tech chat session live on the internet. The event, which kicks off at 11am on June 9th, will make use of the latest I-chat software and a vidcam link so web users will be able to see Tony Banks as he answers their questions. Matt Stone, Editor of The Express Sport Live, will be asking the Minister - a committed Chelsea fan - how he rates England and Scotland's World Cup chances and why he is refusing to go to the tournament.
The Tony Banks interview is the first in a summer chat schedule on the site at www.express-sport.com which will include:
June 10 1900h: Football author Chris Taylor's verdict on Brazil-Scotland's curtain raiser.
June 11, 1200h: Top-selling writer John King will answer questions and talk about his latest book.
