Well, it was a disappointing month with losses and draws only tempered by the 0-0 draw against Rottingham. It always amazes me that Tony Caig doesn't get Man of the Match - he saved our skins in that game. Ah well, a goalie's lot is to be ignored when they play well and slagged off for the occasional blunder. I hereby declare December to be "Give Tony his due" month. So there.
In a moment of distraction following the postponement of the Cardiff match, Mr Knighton did a delightful bellyflop on the rain sodden pitch at Brunton Park. The winner of the resulting caption competition is
Paul Watson
Lets hope next time he tries an impression of Robert Maxwell, he uses the right amount of water.
I'll buy him a drink in Jackson's at some point in the future. In the meantime, here is the chance for someone else to win a drink, with the Michael Knighton can play football caption competition :-)
The Carlisle United Chatroom, set up by Alastair Woodcock has seen some reasonable activity and produced some good ideas. One of these was the idea for sponsoring a player in the name of the Internet Mailing List. Phil Jones agreed to do the organisation and we now have 30 people willing to cough up £5 each, enough to get the ball rolling. To try and cater for fans all around the world and concentrate people into one time slot, it was decided to have a fixed chat room session at 11:00 GMT on Sundays so that fans in the USA and in the antipodes could participate at a "reasonable" local time for them.
Finally, Knighton had a prolonged interview / "questions and answers session" printed in the Cumberland News on Friday 27 November 1998. I have included it in the Features section.
