February 2000

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times......

The SoS 2000 match was a great success in every sense with the crowd getting behind the team for nearly all of the game. Scott Dobie was deservedly MOTM with two goals and dogged persistence. A close second was again Richard Prokas, both for his persistence and headed goal that all but sealed the game for The Cumbrians. All the players put in real effort and were rewarded by the crowd of 4565 getting solidly behind the team. Although the attendance was not as high as was hoped for SoS 2000, the end result was as hoped for. The only down side was that they still didn't look great and we only won because Chester were worse.

Then came the unbeaten run...... which was down to us not playing.

I don't like singling out players for criticism. The last time I really did so, it was David Curriefx because he was playing badly and still getting selected. So here we go, I am going to do it again and for the same reason. Richard Tracey. When he is playing well, he is good, but recently he hasn't been able to do a thing right. So drop him until he gets better.

Which brings me to my main gripe. Leadership and tactics. Do they have any idea?? The only decent home performance this month was against Wigan Athletic in the AWS, then the next game against Mansfield they were crap again, making weird substitutions. We need a Manager with coaching skills not an ex-scout and an ex-player. But I am beginning to fear it is all too late.....

I am now managing to keep my IML Match reports and Teletext pages sections up to date. The next episodes of the Star Wars story are long overdue, I realise, but I have got quite into writing the storyline out and don't want to rush it any more. I'll keep you posted via these monthly updates :-)
