July 2000

Now that the last traumatic season is over, we now have a more positive atmosphere amongst fans. The appointment of Ian Atkins has been almost universally welcomed. The feeling is that at last we have a manager with a proven track record for getting results with limited resources, and that is what we will have for the 2000/01 campaign. The new chairman Albert "Tatlock" Doweck has stated that the wage bill will be kept down. However, as long as we have a good spine to the team and some cover through _sensible_ loan signings I think we will be in the upper half of the Division next season. The main thing for 2000/01 is not to get relegated (dur!!!) and bring some of the kids through for the season after.

The crowd will be a major factor again next season. 1999/2000 saw a negative feedback thing : poor performance, quiet crowd, poorer performance, even quieter crowd.... etc. But this is in no way a defence of the poor performances. Too many times last season we saw a CUFC team made up largely of players who seemed not to care about the club's future.

The fixture list for 2000/01 has some interesting fixtures, not least playing Brighton HA near Bonfire night. After the scenes in Hove last season, you'd think there had been enough fireworks....

With our new manager away on holiday, we have seen little movement on bringing in new players, so expect a flurry over the coming weeks and I will keep the squad section up to date as quickly as I can.

er... jokes about strips and stripes... Teale spitting his dummy out... Hopper and Prokas offered reduced pay.... Doweck not ansering my letter....

And that is it for this month, not much to report really.
