The Hunt for Blue October

The Revolution continues falteringly under the masterful guidance of Comrade Atkins. I said at the start of the season that "with the squad fairly new to each other I would not be surprised to see us in the bottom three after 6 or 7 games". Well, we are 10 games in and we are still wallowing down there. However, this is not yet the time to panic. Atkins can still turn this one around, unlike last season with Chester City when he arrived very late. However, we need to get some more permanent players in, in particular a solid, reliable ball-sprayer for the midfield.

I have heard comments from several people to the effect that since Mr Knighton's shares are in Trust for a year, they suspect that if we do well this season he will triumphantly return as Chairman next season...... Well, we'll have to see if they are right, but this will be made very diffiicult by the recent judgement which prevents Knighton running a company for the next 5 years.

I wrote letters to Mr Doweck on 20 May 2000 and 1 September 2000 and have not received replies to either. At least in the days of Mr Knighton if I sent a letter, it was replied to. OK, he may not have agreed with me, but at least he (or someone) took the time to reply. It does concern me slightly that the new regime seems to care less for the feelings and thoughts of the fans than the last one. However, there is news that Mr Doweck et al have made an offer to Mr Knighton of £1m for CUFC, but that Mr Knighton rejected it, holding out instead for approximately £5m.

Several points were lost last season to dodgy referees and it was disheartening to have this happen again in the Rochdale game when the referee made about a dozen errors.

The fuel crisis brought the country to a standstill, but did little to affect the attendances of most lower division matches. It was interesting to note that it did severely reduce a Manchester United attendance.....

I spent an hour or so this month going through my early issues of RIOA and converting them to single page per month format and transferring other material to new RIOA sections. These include more amusing sports related quotes. New this month are a couple more Separated at Birth. Other than that, the IML match reports and RIOA teletext archive are up to date. However, for some real light relief, try reading the Darwin Awards 2000!
