All Change?

January was certainly an eventful month with the appearance of Mamcarr as majority shareholder of CUFC and the now infamous Arsenal match.

At the moment we are still unsure as to who exactly Mamcarr are. They have stated their intention to build the club back up, and perhaps we should give them time to prove themselves as good as their word. Over the last few years CUFC fans have grown accustomed to being distrustful of The Management at Brunton Park and perhaps we should be seen to give the benefit of the doubt to the new owners. If they then go back on their word, that is the time for us to take action. Again.

Coming straight after the arrival of Mamcarr (and Mr Brown... say no more..), the Arsenal match has proved to be a turning point for CUFC. Only losing 1-0 to Arsenal was seen by nearly all CUFC fans as a moral victory, particularly as much was made in the media of the tackle by Prokas on Viera. Interestingly, little coverage was given to the tackle by Bergkamp, the punch by Cole, the dives by Viera and Cole, and Bergkamp's elbowing. Bookings: CUFC 2-3 Arsenal, and the ref let them off lightly several times.

It was nice to see BP full on 3 sides again and some of those fans did come back to the next few games. Although none of us are too sure about the new regime, I say that we should give them a chance. The last 15 minutes against Mansfield showed the importance of a good crowd, with CUFC defending resolutely as the BP crowd cheered them on. So, put aside whatever reasons you have for not attending and come on down. KO2001 was postponed until the situation at the club is known for sure. I personally feel that this was a mistake. We need to show the new owners that we will show good faith. For us to react to rumour and speculation was a mistake.

Following the Arsenal match, CUFC had an upturn in form with two wins and three draws which at the end of January saw them close to only one point behind Exeter City, and with 3 games in hand.

And finally... Ian Atkins has called for fans to bring drums to the match to help keep the support going through the game. Rob Scott-Buccleuch suggested:
The East Stand Band would probably be better with bagpipes - nobody else will have them and they don't half make a racket! The away fans can then sing "You're Jocks and you know you are" as much as they like - we won't hear 'em! (We would go to an Iron Maiden gig for some peace & quiet!)
Personally, I think this is a cracking idea. We have turned the sheep-shagging jibes back on opposition fans, so why not the Jocks jibe ?-)
