You may have noticed a subtle new page layout on the main index pages. I hope this meets with your approval, but either way, if you have any comments, feel free to send them to me :-)
CCUIST - I am now on the sub-committee for Finance, Marketing and Membership. As such, I have passed on several fund raising ideas from members of the CUFC IML. As well as the launch meeting, there was a presence at the Upperby Gala on 28 May at which new CCUIST members were signed up and money was raised for the Share Fund. There are to be further public meetings over the coming months and these will be publicised on the IML, the official CCUIST website, and on this and other fan websites. The list so far is:
The regional presentations, called 'roadshows' in the press, which have a specific date and venue are as follows: Kendal: Thursday, June 14, 7.30pm for 8.00pm. Kendal Rugby Club, Mint Bridge, Shap Road, Kendal. On A6 north out of town opposite Morrisons. Wigton: Tuesday, June 19, 7.30pm for 8.00pm. Wigton Bowling Club. Penrith: Wednesday, June 20, 7.30pm for 8.00pm. Penrith Rugby Club. Workington: Thursday, June 21, 7.30pm for 8.00pm. Trades Hall, Workington. Details of the Gretna, Haltwhistle and Keswick roadshows will be finalised in the next few days. In addition, CCUIST will have stands at the Keswick Beer Festival on Saturday 23 June and the Carlisle Carnival on Sunday 8 July. Anyone still uncertain about joining CCUIST, and/or wish to know more about how they can help, are invited to attend these meetings and talk to the CCUIST representatives present. Finally, several entertainment events are currently in the planning stage. One that has been set is a Cabaret/Variety evening in Harraby Catholic Club, Carlisle on Friday 30 November, at which there will be singers and comedians.
Fund raising for CCUIST is under way, including raffling signed balls, CCUIST T-Shirts and car stickers , my own beard shaving (which has so far had £34 pledged) and Bradley Mitton's CUFC night at a club in Seoul, South Korea. More events are in the planning and again, these will be publicised on the IML, the official CCUIST website, and on this and other fan websites.
1 June saw David Low's resignation from the club. He forwarded a copy of his resignation to the IML:
-------------------- Original Document Starts ------------------------ June 1, 2001 Mark Knighton Esq Director Carlisle United Football Club (1921) Ltd Brunton Park Carlisle CA1 1LL Dear Mark It is with some considerable regret that I have to inform you Low & Co is hereby terminating forthwith its consultancy arrangement with the club. My objective to May 2001 was to work with the Board to provide the financial support to facilitate retention of Football League status and this, of course, was achieved in unexpectedly difficult circumstances. Also, I had hoped by now to have advised on a repositioning of the business to take into account the economic forces impacting upon lower league clubs. However, the continual controversy surrounding the club has made progress on this front impossible and with little prospect of an improvement in the immediate future. It is in these circumstances I feel the correct course of action is to resign. Finally, both as an advisor and a football supporter I am fully aware of the nature of supporters’ emotions and understand the role local media plays (and in this respect Carlisle is little different than most clubs) but I have never experienced duplicity in a key employee before. Carlisle United is an excellent club and I enjoyed most of my time there. I would like to wish you well for the future and I hope you and the fans ultimately have the success you deserve. Yours sincerely David Low -------------------- Original Document Ends ------------------------
The general mood now amongst fans on the 'net is fear and confusion. Most have read "duplicity in a key employee" to mean Ian Atkins and the Prokas transfer, though some read it as Mark Knighton. . We're still awaiting news on Atkins' fate. The retained list of players hasn't been issued. No new players have been approached.
And finally..... the pre-season friendlies known so far are:
July 20 Workington (away) July 21 Durham (away) July 26 Morecambe (away) July 28 Northwich (away) July 31 Newcastle Utd XI (home) August 4 Southport (away)
