March 2003

Recently there has been talk again of moving to a new ground. Whilst we may all have emotional ties to BP, I think we would all be happier with a secure league club rather than a non-league club and with the maintenance costs and limited development possibilities of Brunton Park may mean that we have a move forced upon us. However, it must not be forgotten that for many fans it is easy to get to Brunton Park. Unless the new ground has good transport links and plenty of parking there may well be reduced attendances and less commercial sales.

We lifted ourselves back out of The Zone again. Now we've just got to stay out. With plenty of games to go, and several teams hovering above The Zone, it is going to be another nail biting year.

The cup run curse hit us once more and boy was it painful. A 5-1 defeat at home is bad at any time, but when we are staring relegation in the face for the umpteenth year in a row, it is too painful for words. Interestingly, several players got into trouble for breaking a curfew imposed by the club and going out drinking. This led to some players being released.

With the season end in sight, the fear of relegation is once more penetrating our hearts. Looking at the table, I think we'll finish in the bottom six. I do still believe we will scrape our way clear, even if it is by a point or so once again. It has been said often this season that the difference between us and other clubs is that they are teams and we are individuals. I think there is a lot of truth in that. However, we are now in the Final at Cardiff and hopefully the players will respond in the right way and play well in the league AS A TEAM. Ask any fan if they want league status or a cup final, and they will always say league status. Can the same be said of some of our players? I hope so.
