OK, I don't know about the other Cumbrians out there, but the lack of atmosphere at Brunton Park compared to our away games is a slight concern on occasion. I've mulled this one over now and again over the years, and I think it is the fact that at the away games you have the die-hard fans all concentrated together, plus the fact that they've travelled and built up themselves up for the game. As suggested on the Message Board, perhaps the answer is to pre-arrange for an area of the Paddock to be for 'chanters/singers' and organise new chants in advance of each game, so that people have a chance to learn them?
This also made me consider the possibility of some new chants, because it is a while since my last chant (Cumbria, my Lord) caught hold with the crowd. I did rewrite the following song a couple of months back as a 'national anthem' for Cumbria, but it would also work well as a CUFC chant:
From Cumbrian valleys and Cumbrian fells,
Pure are our hearts for we mean no ill.
Thunder in the air as our voices rise,
Being Cumbrian is what we prize!
Hear our shouts! Hear our roar!
We'll be loyal forever more!
Hoorah! Hoorah! Hoorah! Yay!
Hoorah! Hoorah! Hoorah! Yay-yay!
let that sink in and get back to me with your thoughts ;-)
