Well December was a strange month in many ways. Just as Cumbria was starting to recover from the floods we got plunged into a long and (for many) difficult cold snap, with games cancelled, people stuck, and all sorts of other issues. It didn't affect me too much, other than coming down with a bad dose of flu only weeks after a heavy cold. The two combined to give me a bad cough which has hung on into 2010. On the plus side, we were given some beautiful sights, many of which were captured for posterity. Some were shared on the Carlisle United Messageboard, including these by The_Cat. I took some myself, which I share here:

At work, I provided my now traditional Winter Solstice Food Festival to those colleagues also working during the Festive Fortnight. My Christms Dinner in a sausage roll is always a popular item, as were slices of the Christmas Cake made by my eldest brother. Carlisle's festive schedule was however quite light on games, as mentioned, so we went into our January 2nd FA Cup match at Everton on the back of a period of sparse gametime for our players. Whether this contributed to our excellent performance against The Toffees is hard to discern - our players do seem to lift themselves for Big Games. In the end we lost 3-1, but most there (including Everton staff and fans) felt that this flattered Everton. We had been on a good run of results up to the Everton game, so hopefully we can continue with this form into the New Year. First priority now must be to secure our Tier 3 position for next season, with any progression to Wembley in the JPT (at the expense of Leeds United) taking a definite second place.
