A long, long time ago in a division far, far away........

There was a club with many, many, many youngsters playing in the first team.
They were famous, but unfortunately they were Manchester United.
Now at Carlisle United we have our own youngsters,
up here in the real North! They are

The Brunton Bairns

One of the great achievements at Brunton Park over the last few seasons has been the youth system and in this close season issue I thought that we should recognise this fact. After all, this season has seen the youth team beat Manchester United's youth team heralding, perhaps, the passing of the baton to a new "United of the North". The last couple of seasons have also seen several of these players consolidating their places in the first team and in the hearts of the fans.

These players include Tony_Caig, Tony_Hopper, Will_Varty, Rory_Delap, Matt_Jansen, Gareth_McAlindon, Richard_Prokas and of course the recently departed Darren_Edmondson and Paul Murray.

Our hope is, of course, that these players (and those which will follow them) will lift us through the divisions up to the dizzy heights of the Premiereship (Tier 1) where, hopefully, we will give Manchester United one hell of a stuffing at Old Trafford! However, in the short term we need to concentrate on staying up and at least fighting for a play-off place in the coming season in Division 2 (Tier 3). We should also accept the fact that the Premiership is heading towards an elitist situation where they will (probably) dispense with automatic relegation and adopt a play-off system between the bottom of the Premiereship and the top of Division 1 (Tier 2). I also predict that the Premiereship will probably be reduced to 18 and then 16 teams over the next 5 years. Oh, and if anyone wants next week's lottery numbers.....
