Peter Beardsley has not ruled out a return to Carlisle United - and he's hinted that it's up to chairman Michael Knighton to make an offer for him.
The 37-year-old, who could have helped consign Carlisle to Third Division football yesterday, said he had had no officials talks with the Cumbrians. Beardsley, who faced his former team in Fulham's 5-0 victory over the Cumbrians has often been rumoured to be on the verge of an emotional return to Brunton Park.
"Carlisle is a good club there is no doubt about it. The people are genuine, it is a great place and we have had a lot of happy times there so I would not rule out coming back but obviously it is down to the main man. It is down to other people."
'There was a lot of talk. There possibly was something official but I didn't hear anything. If it was put to me I would think long and hard about it because I had a lot of happy times at Carlisle.
"It sounds big-headed but when you have had a career like mine people tend to think that you will go back to your first club.
"I am not saying that won't be the case but I have come to Fulham and I am enjoying it very much here," he said.
Beardsley is on loan with the Cottagers until the end of the season. He still has a year of his contract still to run at Bolton. He said he had mixed emotions after Fulham's 5-0 win.
"I still want them to stay up but it is going to be difficult now. I always want them to be as high as possible. They were great to me. They gave me a start and if they hadn't I wouldn't have got where I am now," he said. Beardsley received a tremendous ovation from the 600 Carlisle fans as he left the pitch.
"The fans were great. It is nice when things like that happen. I was at the Carlisle-Brentford match a month ago and they gave Warren Aspinall a bit of stick so I was pleased with the reception they gave me."
The defeat leaves Carlisle second bottom with only three games to play.
