Pre-season "Friendly"
In a match that proved Scumley to be far superior than the Blues I did see some better signs, although still infrequent and unsustainable. This was the best I had seen Carlisle play after sight of them at Durham and Berwick.
Steve Agnew will certainly be better than we currently have in midfield and shows a little vision and passing ability. Andy Walker showed some useful touches but to be fair we hardly troubled Burnleys defence all afternoon. Wasn't impressed with Harries the Aussie kid.
The highlight was our goal. Peter Clarke had almost given a goal away after a slack pass on the edge of our box and then in Carlisle's next attack he made the goal for Richard Tracey. He did well to quickly close a Burnley defender down winning the tackle well. The ball broke towards the Burnley keeper but Clarke was up in a shot to win another 50/50 challenge with the keeper, the ball breaking to Richard Tracey who managed to mis hit another into the bottom corner.I hope Tracey can mis hit a few more when the season starts.
Burnley's winner was bad defending with their guy (Andy Payton I think)being allowed three attempts on goal before scoring. The Carlisle goal lead a charmed life in the final minutes with keeper and defenders not having a clue what each of them was supposed to be doing. Looked a bit farcical at times. Plenty of work for Neil Cooper on the training pitch next week before we see the truth it all against Leyton Orient on Saturday.

weaver: no worse than the others, two smart saves, no fault in the goals, whats he doing next saturday?, someone ask him. pitts (the bleep test king): quick, fit and confident tackles could keep bowman and barr(the gentlemen retailers) on the bench. clark: good game, not short on confidence. whitehead: was worried he might break something and we would lose our classy player he didnt, phew. brightwell: assertive game, although short on pace my two year old could take him on in a sprint and beat him in the bleep test. prokas: ran around alot hopper: ran around alot agnew: some imaginative passing, but had a big sign on his back saying'dont injure me, i have a rather large mortgage' harries(the aussie import): slightly better than Fosters looked worringly like ian stevens and played like him until leaving with a niggle. walker: can hold the ball up, but the midfield cavalry always arrived minutes later, the good guys had died and the fort was burning. looked 34 in the sun 44 in the shade searle: his creative runs are the only daring football we have played in the last two seasons tracey: lightweight, unsure of touch, but gets on the scoresheet we could do with a few of these. skelton: soft spot for my namesake the lad did well, he can pass as well as run around a lot (see above). barr: a confident five minutes for billy lets hope he can make it a five minute season. thorpe: a cry of sicknote from the paddock the reds are calling you, jeff. Not Used Anthony: why not? are we waiting for his visa to arrive? play tha man, HE HAS TALENT, a rare commodity indeed the Burnley team played all 55 squad members, their cleaning staff, distant relatives and a passing bloke with his dog. I was impressed with the dog, he had a better touch than Tracey and did not flag in the afternoon heat(unlike the linesman) i thank you Keith Skelton
We lost 2-1 dick tracey equalised team goalie from sundlund (good) pitts clarke (crap defending) brightwell (man of match) whitehead searle (some good passes but faded in and out) agnew prokas (crap) hopper aussie (injured) walker (anon) subs that were used tracey (scored, good) barr (never touched the ball, really) thorpe skelton (not given much time)
