1999.09.11 - Carlisle United 1-0 Lincoln City

Well not a great performance but three points non-the-less. The first
half was probably our worst 45 mins of the season and we were luckly to
go in level at half time. The second half was a little better but it
was Lincoln who looked most likely to score. The main problem was the
midfield all of who had an off day. The forwards were left isolated and
the defence kept under a lot of pressure. last season however, this was
a game we would have lost. The result keeps us mid-table and I'm sure
most of us will be happy with that at the seasons end.

Weaver 8 (MoM)
Excellent yet again. Kept us in the game on a number of occasions
with an especially impressive double save in the second half.

Barr 6
Pretty shaky first half, improved slightly in the second. Not up to
recent performances.

Clarke 5
In a week where Searle was put on the transfer list I was looking to
Clarke to prove my anxieties wrong. Did he do this? Did he fuc...

Whitehead 7
Showed good touches at times, and didn't do much wrong. Although in
the last two or three games opposition teams have created a number of
chances without the central two, seamingly, performing particularly
badly. Strange.

Brightwell 7
Solid at the back and is showing a willingness to make forward runs
at times. Did this once just after the goal and created a chance we
really should have scored from.

Hopper 5
Showed little signs of improvement on recent games before going off
injured.

Thorpe 5
The whole midfield had an off day and Thorpe was far from impressive.
Failed to link up with others and made few runs forward.

Clarke 5
First start of the season so it may have been a little optomistic to
expect too much. We certainly lacked Tommy Blacks presence in the game.
Switched to his favoured left side of midfield later in the game.

Soley 5
Largely anonimous and failed to link up with the forwards or make any
really effective runs forward. Again the old problems of linking
midfield and attack were present in this game.

Tracey 6
The front line were hampered by the ineptitude of the midfield.
Scored the only goal, but was about to be subbed.

Baker 6
An off day for the big man. Was a little unlucky not to score soon
after the goal.

Subs:
Prokas 6
Came on for Hopper early on, it was surprising not to see him start.
Not as effective as he can be but far from the worst in midfield.

Harries 5
Didn't really get into the game when he came on for Thorpe. Played On
the right of midfield - not his favoured position.
