1999.10.16 - Exeter City 1-1 Carlisle United

Sorry for delay in posting match report, but after a 700 mile round trip I
slept most of Sunday.
After assisting in the preparation of the match report for a regional Daily
paper, I thought you might like the detail from my notes.
Exeter had the early possession but Carlisle looked comfortable at the back
and the midfield finally had somebody who could pass the ball, in Graham
Anthony.
7 mins-Alexander's cross was met by an unmarked Richardson who headed
powerfully, but thankfullyover the bar.
9-Rob Bowman cross headed wide by Harries.
15-Anthony won ball on edge of box, broke loose to Tracey who weakly shot
straight at the keeper. Should have done better.
20-Alexander header just over Carlisle bar.
21-Bradley shot saved well by Dibble.
24-Anthony corner hit too deep and cleared.
25-Gittens header well wide when well placed.
26-Peter Clarke free kick on left broke to Gregory who completely
miss-kicked when well placed.
27-At the other end Bradley had a great chance but he also miss-kicked.
33-McConnel corner headed wide.
34-Dibble's hesitancy to come off his line let in Bradley but made amends by
making great save from Alexander.
36-Dobie seeing a lot of the ball but always trying to take on one too many.
40-Anthony free kick headed away for throw in.
43-Alexander goal bound effort headed over at point blank by Billy Barr .
HT-Blues defended quite well, Brightwell in particular, but Exeter's poor
finishing did more to keep us in the match.

47-Anthony corner headed away to safety.
48-Anthony cross missed by Harries, who was continually muscled off the
ball.
49-Peter Clarke booked after a late challenge after letting the ball run
away from him. His forward runs were giving Exeter problems.
52-Bowman did well to cut out a dangerous cross, giving away a corner.
53-"GOAL" Dibble came to punch a cross he was never going to get, the ball
broke loose to Jason Rees on the edge of the box, who hammered into the top
right hand corner.
57-McConnell put clean through and Dibble made a great save at his feet for
a corner.
62-Bradley booked for a foul on Gregory.
65-Holloway shot saved low to the left by Dibble.
68-Good Anthony ball over top and Tracey marginally offside.
69-Harries and Gregory off, Baker and Soley on.
70-Jason Rees shot high over.
71-Rees booked for foul on Tracey.
76-Bradley played in but yet another miss-kick.
77-Bradley off, Flack on.
82-McConnell corner comfortably taken by Dibble.
85-"GOAL"Adrian Clarke found space on the right and his low, whipped in
cross was met low by Scott Dobie's head giving keeper no chance. The
celebrations by players and fans alike was a scene to behold. The players
made for the corner of the stand where around 200 Blues were gathered and
went absolutely mental. You would have thought they had won the cup, not
just an equaliser in a Third Division game. However the goal was just that
important to a team sorely lacking in confidence in recent weeks.
87-Blues confidence growing and Tracey was marginally offside when put clean
through.
88-McConnell off and Smith on.
89-Another marginal offside against Tracey.
90-Baker caught offside as Blues pressed for winner. Carlisle at this late
stage were definitely on top.
92-Exeter free kick in dangerous position but poor delivery let Blues off
the hook.
FT-A great point for a positive defensive display and one moment of magic up
front. Let's hope we can keep it going at Darlo on Tuesday night. Man of the
Match-Dibble closely followed by Brightwell. Anthony showed good touches and
should keep his place and will get better as his match fitness improves.
