2000.04.11 - Northampton Town 1-0 Carlisle United

Nil - One. I have seen us play much worse this season but Cobblers were too organised for us. Big defence. They just sat back for most of the match, once they'd got the scrambled goal, and tried to hit us on the break. Their corners were dangerous. We couldn't offer much in attack. Soley hit the bar with a screamer of a free kick and Halliday was just wide from 30 yards. Reid had a powerful long shot but straight to the keeper. Not sure why Reid was taken off - he was one of the better players. McKinnon had a better game for us and I thought Whitehead played well. Brightwell has had a "Beckham" hair cut - he looks ridiculous and tonight he played that way as well.

Our next two matches are better bets for three points (each).

The problem is when we have chances like we did and the opposition allow us to play to our strengths we should not be getting beaten at home. It was reminiscent of the Rotherham match to me -the undeserving team won! When all is said and done it still spells out trouble, a point at the very least should have been the outcome, but if you cannot make it count then they are asking for trouble.

Pity it has only taken three days for the pessimism to set back in! BTW, what's with the lurkers getting all handbaggy all of a sudden? Didn't realise satellite photographs could stir the loins of passion so much! Have to admit I did like it though.

Yet again a big, organised team did us for suckers. We worked hard and we went forward but i always had the feeling that the Cobblers were coping. Too many good positions were wasted - bad crosses, misplaced passes, etc - for us to really create that clear cut chance. Having said that, Brightwell skyed the ball over the bar from 6 yds when it was easier to burst the net.

The good things from tonight are that we played better than on alot of occasions recently and, more importantly, if the players were thinking that the relegation battle was over this might just have given them a timely wake up call.

1) Did anyone else in the East Stand notice who was in there? Paul Dodd. He was thrown out at half-time though.

2) Northampton were a poor side...... we didnt deserve to lose.... but the number of times we lost possesion was terrible.... Whitehead had a poor first half... the person next to me pointed out that every time Weaver gets the ball NONE of the players push out to the wings to give him options so he has to knock it high and forward.

3) Is it just me or is Rob McKinnon not as good as we first thought?

4) I feel that the players still need someone to motivate them.... Teale could be a perfect coach.

5) What is happening to all our players' hair?!?!?!?!?! Just cos yer hairs like Beckham... doesnt mean your as good as him!

Lee Rooney.
